Long Weekend Garden Boxes!

This weekend  we did lots!

Saturday we had a very successful yard sale.
Sunday we took apart our garden and made garden planters for our new place
(a townhouse with no yard, but 2 balconies)
Monday we cleaned up the basement and packed leftover things then relaxed!

Here's the progress of Simon's "masterpiece" planter boxes...

Working hard!
Simon got to use the saw that I bought him for Christmas. We re-used all the wood from our built-up garden that we took down because we are moving and the landlord said he was going to get rid of the gardens anyways.
I used Simon's sander and organized the wood to the pattern I like. The wood was sun-bleached on one side so it looks kind of blue.

Finished product!
The only thing we bought for this project was the nice clean wood on the top of the boxes. It finishes it off nicely. Simon mitered the corners to make it extra nice :)

Peppermint "snowballs"

I have been hard at work packing lately... and wishing for a job, or shifts at the job I have.. but needed a break this afternoon! I had a pretty large lunch and just sat on the couch reading for an hour so my tummy could digest a bit then I started packing again, but I was so cold that I decided to do some baking! Our kitchen is pretty small so it holds the heat from the oven :) And plus I did the dishes by hand in nice hot water while the cookies were baking. I wanted chocolate chip cookies, but since I packed most of my baking things yesterday and didn't want to search for them I made this recipe (plus it jumped into my hands when going through my recipe box).

My Version of Peppermint Snowballs

I added chopped dark chocolate into the dough :) and then dipped them in melted chocolate chips and topped with crushed candy cane (my second to last one!!)

Now I am sitting on the couch again with 3 cookies beside me (2 have already made their way to T-Rex) and my tea. This is nice, but it would be nice to work as well. Sometimes I get bored. At least I have packing to do! I finished the office today, and the "sewing" room was done last week. I started the kitchen yesterday. I need more boxes. Hopefully I'll get some tonight. I can get them from work, I just have to go pick them up!

Okay my cookies and book are calling me!

Home again Home again Jiggety Jog!

This past week/weekend my parents were here to visit!
Here's a snapshot of what we did.

First things first I had to hand in my VERY LAST assignment/exam at the University! Woo! I also ordered some grad pictures while we were there. We gave my parents a quick driving tour of Ottawa, but there were probably too tired to remember much :p! The next day we did a tour of parliament and got to see more than Simon and I had seen the previous two times we were there because parliament is not sitting! Sunday was relaxing/shopping at the mall day! We had Sophie and Jeff over for dinner too, but I forgot to take any pictures. Monday we went to Montreal! Simon figured since we were so close we had to take the parents there! We walked (lots! I was tired, and it felt like all I was ever doing was searching for a bathroom!) and had lunch in a nice Montrealais cafe in Vieux Montreal. I left my camera in the car that day, but I think my mom has pictures. We did go to the Olympic park in Montreal too. We'd never been there, so that was cool. By Tuesday I was pooped from doing so much so Simon and I stayed home while my parents went adventuring downtown. They went to the Canadian Mint and walked around. Later that night I "helped" (aka watched) my mom pack my china! We're moving at the end of the month and I felt better having my mom pack it! I don't think we unpacked it until moving to this house, so really I have never packed my own china! Wednesday the parents went home and it was back to Simon and I. Today it's really quiet cause Simon's back to work now too. I've been packing a bit, but its so nice out (22 degrees) that I had to put a blanket on the lawn and lay down and read for a couple hours!

That's all for now!
Thanks to Mom and Dad for a good week :)
When are you coming back??

I'm Back!

Back but never really went anywhere.

I just haven't been blogging.
There's just too much that's been going on lately...
Let me explain in some pictures :)

I finished classes! Woo! I had my last formal written exam today. I still have a take-home exam-assignment to do that I wanted to have done for today, but haven't really started cause I was sick last week and nothing got done! After that I am done with university!

We bought a new car a couple weeks ago! It's a Mazda Tribute! I have even driven it! I've probably driven it more already than I ever drove our last car :p It's used (about 10 years old) but in really good condition.

We've also been doing a lot of reading... when we don't fall asleep

Cause we're going to have a baby!

Surprise!
This is me at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks and 13 weeks!
Baby's due on November 5th
and so far everything is "perfect" according to the doctor

We're calling the baby T-Rex for right now.
Because at one point it had "a big head and little arms"

Bad case of the Monday's

It doesn't help that today is my first day back to classes after a week of doing literally nothing!
It also doesn't help that it's a blizzard outside!

I got up this morning and walked through snow/ice pellets to the bus, stood on the bus for the 20 minute ride downtown and went to the class I hadn't really done the homework for (that's my fault). After class I planned on working on an assignment due Wednesday in the computer lab on campus so I could  use a specific translation memory software. Needless to say, the computer wouldn't cooperate nor would the program! I restarted the computer and the program and still nothing worked properly!! I spent 2 hours fighting with this program to build a corpus just to make my life easier, but it in fact made it worse! So I decided to cut my losses and head home, where I can at least make a cup of tea (and maybe a shower cause I slept in this morning). Maybe after tea and a shower I can concentrate enough to get a good portion of this assignment done...

I feel better after having a shower but now all I want to do is nap!  I'm slowly working on my assignment with my hot chocolate nearby. Simon will be home in about half an hour, then he can distract me from my homework!! Oh and it stopped snowing halfway home from class. There's a lot out there though! Up to my ankles on the driveway! And just when I was thinking it was spring cause it hadn't snowed for awhile, and we were starting to see grass appear on the sides of the driveway... alas winter's still here.... what I would give for a heavy rain! Oh to fall asleep to the sound of rain on the roof... guess we should move back to the Fraser Valley!

This is how my granny square afghan is coming along.. I now have 4 rows of 6 squares joined together. I might start joining these rows to eachother soon. I still need to make about 20 more squares though.

Lazy Reading Break!

Hello from snowy Ontario!

It's snowing again today... so much for hoping it wouldn't snow anymore this year!

It's Thursday and I have done very close to NOTHING this week! I guess it's a weird week because of the holiday on Monday. Simon and I did so much this weekend I think I'm still recuperating! Tuesday and Wednesday I don't know where the days went! I feel like I did nothing. I watched a lot of TV and crocheted a bunch! Today I have been a bit productive... I looked at some homework and tidied up the living/dining rooms. I  made a list of things that need to be done last night so that I can consult that when I'm bored. I think I might try my hand at Nanaimo Bars this afternoon. Simon will like that.

This is what I've been working on. I've been doing one large square in about an hour. I've made 18 this week already, and the half one sitting there! I am going to make a bunch and then attach them all together for a blanket. I started out thinking of making a 4x5 square blanket, then decided on 6x5 and now I think its going to be 6x7 squares and then the edges etc.  Only 24 more to go!

So I have accomplished what I set out to do on reading break... nothing! But I have also crocheted, tidied, baked (soon) and finished one book! It was such a good book I was up until midnight reading! I would like to do some sewing today, but in order to do that I have to first clean the craft room, which I don't want to do! Maybe tomorrow!

A plus tard!
